Side Note
The custom Merlin firmware supports the ASUS RT-AX58U and ASUS RT-AX86U. Unfortunately as of right now, the ASUS RT-AX82U isn’t supported, but it’s still my personal favorite. Although the default firmware that comes with the router worked very well in my opinion.
I did not receive the products free of charge from Asus, or compensation to make this review. I did end up keeping the ASUS RT-AX86U as my WiFi 6 Router. I found a good price for it online so it ended up being around the same price as the ASUS RT-AX82U. I wish the ASUS RT-AX86U had those awesome lights 🙃.

The results were a 10x WiFi speed improvement after upgrading to a WiFi 6 router. I did a shootout between the Asus AX58U, Asus AX82U, and the Asus AX86U to choose my next router. After looking at the options, I wondered if paying extra for a higher-quality router made a practical difference. These are a few of my thoughts: My personal favorite was the Asus RT-AX82U because of its cool lights and performance.
